How Many Placement Points Are Awarded For Events?
This article explains how placement points are awarded.
Placement points are awarded based on what we call the Flight Value.
Each tournament's flight is assigned a value based on the top 5 teams in the flight. The points contributed by each team is calculated based on their national rank (USA) on the day the event is ranked. The point breakdowns are as follows:- Teams in the top 1% contribute 10000 points.
- Teams in the top 2% contribute 7500 points.
- Teams in the top 3% contribute 5000 points.
- Teams in the top 5% contribute 3250 points.
- Teams in the top 7% contribute 1918 points.
- Teams in the top 10% contribute 1185 points.
- Teams in the top 14% contribute 886 points.
- Teams in the top 20% contribute 623 points.
- Teams in the top 30% contribute 469 points.
- Teams in the top 40% contribute 313 points.
- Teams in the top 60% contribute 234 points.
- Teams in the lower 40% contribute 156 points.
The value of the top ranking teams in the flight are then averaged to generate the flight's final value or pool. The winners will be awarded points from this pool, minus 20% of their current national points total.
The champion will receive 100% of the available flight value. When applicable (as explained above) the following will be awarded to additional placements:
Finalist: 50% of the available flight value
Semi-Finalist: 25% of the available flight value
Quarter-Finalist: 12.5% of the available flight value (GotSoccer events only)
Here is an example of how this would work. If your team has 100pts and plays in a flight worth 500pts and wins, your team would face a 20% deduction of 20pts from that 500pts flight value, leaving 480 maximum points available to your team for this event. As champion, you would receive all of these. If your team placed 2nd in that same flight, you would receive ½ of that maximum flight value, or 240pts.
League placements points:
The points for leagues are also awarded based on flight sizes. With a league flight of a larger size, more placements will be eligible for points.
